Летни Дни

Dear friends…

The past seven weeks have been incredible. Training is barely past halfway done and I already have many stories to share. My language skills and understanding of Bulgarian culture have both improved greatly; I appreciate all of the support you give from home.

Only the heat has bothered me here. Without air conditioning, productive afternoons quickly melt into drowsy, lazy afternoons. It rained today and temperatures are bearable again, but I am unexcited for the humidity that is sure to come.

Summer is welcome for the food variety it brings, though. Many fruits are now in season; A neighbor offers me a heavy branch laden with cherries, the grocery store has a row of watermelons on the ground, and the strawberries on my plate at breakfast rest mere meters from where they had grown.

The nearby resort has opened its doors and the swimming pools are lively. We visited a few days before opening day to see some horo dances and traditional music. While waiting around, Yivo and his friend fished out a big moth from the pool.

How beautiful a country this is.
